Mr. and Mrs. Schermerhorn,
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your son, Ryer. I had known him from 4th grade until he was chosen to transfer to FSW. I'm sure he is happier now; without the bullying and meanness. He was a great person. That, I knew. Maybe we all should have appreciated his kindness just a bit more. I am so sorry for your loss...

I umm... Want to apologize for anything that we all may have said or did to hurt you emotionally. My name doesn't matter as I speak for all of your classmates who bullied you. I never got the chance to apologize for everything that was said. Please forgive those of us who have arose to the occasion and confessed to this awful deed. I understand that it doesn't do justice to what has happened but just wanted to tell you and your family that I sincerely apologize for my actions and those of my peers.

May God be with you.

Although I only met Ryer a few times, I remember his smiling face. His Mother never stopped talking about him and how proud she is of his many accomplishments in such a short time. It is pure dedication and perseverance to be studying for the lifelong achievement of an Eagle Scout along with all of his other proficiencies. Ryer's loving spirit and memories will always be with you. Our children may leave this Earth but remain with us forever. Margie

Knowing that in no way will this make up for your void, I'd like to apologize for your loss and I wish good travels on the road ahead.

Dear Ms. and Mrs. Schermerhorn,

My son Helmut had the pleasure of being one of Ryer's first friends when he moved here as they were buddied up in their second grade class, since they had so much in common. Helmut was lucky enough to be able to share classes with Ryer that year and then again in 4-8th. We are so sorry to hear that Ryer is gone. We will always think fondly of him.

Sincerely,

The Carter Family

Ryer played the role of Philostrate last spring in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with all the commitment and dignity that the role demands. Indeed, that role was perfect for Ryer as a most dignified and committed young man. Ryer brought much goodness and light to his classes, his classmates, and his teachers.
I deeply mourn for you and for Ryer.
With sincerest hope that your hearts may heal, Pat Foster

Please let us know if there is anything we can do...

Ryer was an inspiration to all of us and we have all been positively touched by his presence in our lives.
