Ryer Thomas Schermerhorn, 14, of Rotonda West, Florida died Tuesday, December 16, 2014. He was born August 30, 2000 in Lancaster, Ohio.

Ryer was a student of Grand Master Derrick Maretti achieving a second degree black belt in TKD and was a Life Scout working on his Final Eagle requirements for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 100. Ryer studied piano as well as some percussion and French Horn. Ryer was certified as an advanced scuba diver with Nitrox. He enjoyed SCUBA diving both from his boat and with those of Fantasea Scuba as well as sailing with the USSMC. Ryer was a defender of justice overcoming and helping several others overcome peer pressure and bullying. Ryer was respected and admired by his peers and by those adults who choose to care about him as an individual and who dedicated their time to teach and advance his skills, talents and knowledge.

Survived by his loving parents Scott and Karen Schermerhorn, Aunt & Uncle Rebecca & Lee Jackrel, Great Grandmother Gladys Weeks, Grandmother Bonney Clewes Schermerhorn and Grandfathers Chester Kolasa and Porter Schermerhorn.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Ryer will be released back to the universe from which he came into the Gulf of Mexico.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
