Dorothy M. Ford, 78, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 29, 2012.
A second-generation Italian-American, she was born May 1, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. Dorothy was a nurse's aide at Brookhaven Labs and Oak Hollow nursing home. In 1986, she and her husband James Ford moved to Port Charlotte, followed by her daughter and son. Dorothy lived a life full of abundant love, tremendous generosity, humor, and a fondness for spoiling her grandchildren. Those who knew her best knew she also loved her bingo, slot machines, and vacuum cleaner.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, James Ford; a daughter, Deborah Swick and husband Terry; sons, Gregory Ford and wife Denise, and James Ford; 3 sisters, Mary D'Aversa, Helen Marano and Gloria Pileggi; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren on the way.
Visitation will be held 2PM- 4PM and 6PM- 8PM, Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will held 11AM, Friday February 3, 2012 at San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Inurnment will be held at a later date by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in her name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue suite 200 Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or go to www.pancan.org. The family would like to thank Tidewell Hospice Inc. for their compassion, kindness and dedication to the family.
