Mr. John C. Vargo, 64, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, passed away Sunday November 15, 2009 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Born John Carroll Vargo October 13, 1945 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, John, a resident of his native Martins Ferry until 1970, began a career in education following graduation from Ohio State University. John served a two year tenure at Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, West Virginia before moving to Port Charlotte in 1972. Working briefly for DeSoto County's Arcadia High School, John then began a 20 year tenure with Charlotte County Public School Board, first as a teacher at Charlotte High School and eventually Assistant Principal of both Charlotte High and Port Charlotte High Schools in his long association with Charlotte County Public Schools. John retired from Charlotte High School in 1992 and was honored with a Roast for his long tenure and many accomplishments. He was a member of the Masons and was Presbyterian.
He is survived by uncles Alex and Robert Vargo both of Ohio, Kenneth Vargo of Canada, and aunt, Helen Demchak of OH; several cousins, and his close friends Thomas C. Trauba and Gloria L. Shakeshaft. John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Anna M. and John Vargo and aunts Jenny Formella and Rose Kadar.
